Wake Forest's game today versus Florida was supposed to be a homecoming of sorts for freshman Mitchell Wilbekin.
But all of the pre-game anticipation was for naught.
The Gainesville-native and brother of Scottie Wilbekin- last season's SEC Player of the Year for the Gators- has been suspended for six games due to an NCAA violation.
"We believe in Mitchell Wilbekin," said Wake Forest Athletic Director Ron Wellman. "We do not agree with the length of the penalty or the violation, and we will be appealing the suspension with the NCAA."
As of now, the starting point guard will not return to action until Jan. 10 against Georgia Tech.
Additionally, freshmen wings Rondale Watson and Cornelius Hudson will not play today due to conduct detrimental to the team.
Wilbekin and Hudson lead the team in 3-point shooting so spreading the floor against an athletic Gator team could be troublesome for Wake.
