Wake Forest vs. Samford: Preview

The Deacs have finished their final exams and are ready to play ball again.

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

It has been eight days since the Wake Forest Demon Deacons took the court, but they'll be back in action tonight at 6 p.m. at the Joel. The Deacs will look to snap a three-game losing streak when they host the Samford Bulldogs. How do the teams match up statistically?

Wake Forest Offense vs. Samford Defense
Wake Forest Offense Ken Pom Statistic Samford Defense
97.7 Rating 106.3
46.3% eFG% 52.4%
21.2% TO% 22.0%
34.9% Reb% 68.0%
49.7% FTA/FGA 54.7%

As bad as Wake Forest has been offensively this season, Samford has been even worse defensively. Wake Forest is 220th nationally in offensive efficiency, but Samford is a woeful 319th. The Bulldogs allow too many easy baskets and foul a lot, which gives teams many opportunities to earn points at the charity stripe. I believe Devin Thomas will bounce back from his recent struggles and have a very strong game this evening.

Wake Forest has a definitive advantage when they are on defense. Samford is anemic offensively, and is currently 318th in the country in offensive efficiency. They are poor at shooting, and do not get to the foul line often. I expect the Deacs to force Samford over and earn easy transition buckets.

Some notable names for Samford to watch are Tyler Hood, Christian Cunningham and Michael Bradley.

I hope to see you all at the Joel. As always, go Deacs!
