Wisconsin Football Head Coaching Position Is Open: Is Dave Clawson a Candidate?

Is Coach Clawson a candidate for the Wisconsin opening?

Mark Dolejs-USA TODAY Sports

Dave Clawson was hired as Wake Forest's head coach exactly one year ago today, so Wake Forest fans are familiar with the coaching carousel that takes place immediately after the college football regular season ends. In a very surprising move, Gary Anderson left Wisconsin for Oregon State, which leaves the Big 10 runner ups without a head coach. Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel tweets that Dave Clawson is a potential candidate for the opening, and that he finished second to Anderson just two years ago.

Other Candidates

  • Greg Schiano - Former Rutgers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach
  • Paul Chryst - Current Pittsburgh head coach and former Wisconsin OC
  • Justin Fuente - Current Memphis head coach and former TCU Co-OC
  • Matt Wells - Current Utah State head coach
  • Dave Aranda - Current Wisconsin defensive coordinator
We will continue to monitor the situation as it progresses. Wisconsin's athletic director "had no idea" Anderson was planning to leave Wisconsin, so it appears doubtful he has even reached out to any potential candidates at this time.

What are your thoughts on the matter?
