Mitchell Wilbekin is a 6'2" 165 pound guard out of The Rock School in Gainesville, Florida. He is the younger brother of Scottie Wilbekin, who was the 2013-2014 SEC Player of the Year. Mitchell played six seasons of varsity basketball, and is the school's all-time scoring leader. During his senior campaign he averaged 15 points and 2 steals per contest. He initially committed to Danny Manning at Tulsa, but ultimately flipped his commitment to join Manning at Wake Forest University. He also had an offer from Virginia.
Wilbekin comes to Wake Forest with an excellent shooting touch from beyond the arc, which will allow the Deacs to spread the floor on offense. I can see him starting at point guard and moving Codi Miller-McIntyre to the two, but I can also see Manning starting a more experienced player like Madison Jones at point guard. Either way, Wilbekin will see the floor this year due to his spot-up shooting ability.
Later tonight we'll have a full recap of tonight's exhibition game against Young Harris.
