Wake Forest redshirt senior nose tackle Nikita Whitlock was named ACC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week on Monday, sharing the award with Clemson's Vic Beasley. Whitlock throttled the Army Black Knights on Saturday afternoon to the tune of a career-high 14 tackles in Wake's 25-11 victory at West Point.
Whitlock's 14 tackles (7 solo) were the most by a Deacon defender since 2009, when Dominique Midgett tallied 15 in a game against Navy. In addition to his tackles, Whitlock forced a fumble (recovered by the Deacs' Hunter Williams) and was credited with 1 pass break-up.
Beasley earned his share of the award by virtue of his 3-sack, 5 tackle performance in last Thursday night's Clemson victory over N.C. State. Beasley, a 6'3 junior, harassed a game Wolfpack offense until the Tigers finally prevailed, 26-14.
The two defensive stars will share the field next Saturday, as the Deacs travel to Death Valley to try and upset Tajh Boyd and the third-ranked Tigers.
