GREENSBORO-- Kerri Shields went 4-8 from the three-point line and Kristen Doherty added 3 threes of her own to shoot the No. 11 seed Boston College Eagles over the Virginia Cavaliers in the first round of the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament on Thursday.

The Eagles (12-18, 5-13 ACC) had four starters in double figures, led by Shields (16 points) and Doherty (15 points). Center Katie Zenevitch continued her strong play, scoring 12 points while Tessah Holt added 11 points in addition to 3 steals.

Virginia (16-14, 8-10 ACC) was led by Ataira Franklin's 17 points, the majority of which came in a frenetic second half. Forward Faith Randolph added 15 points for the Cavaliers, while Sarah Imovbioh hauled down 10 rebounds in defeat.

Next up for Boston College is a late-night date with third-seeded and nationally ranked North Carolina. That game will follow the 6:00 p.m. quarterfinal game between Maryland and Wake Forest. Both games will be televised by the ACC Network.
