According to multiple sources close to the Wake Forest basketball team, sophomore shooting guard Chase Fischer plans to transfer from Wake Forest after this season. This would make the ninth player lost to transfer or dismissal from the program since Jeff Bzdelik took over in 2010.

When asked about the prospects of Fischer transferring, a source very close to the program said to "consider [it] verified. He is gone."

In two years as a Demon Deacon, Fischer averaged 6.3 points per game as a freshman and 4.5 points per game as a sophomore.

Officials at Wake Forest declined to comment at this time.

In his usual end-of-year wrap-up with the Winston-Salem Journal's Dan Collins, Ron Wellman mentioned the returning players as "8 sophomores and [Travis] McKie," with no mention of the soon-to-be junior guard. Fischer had also recently deleted his Twitter account before reactivating it on Thursday.

The depth chart at guard would be thinner than already expected, with C.J. Harris graduating and Codi Miller-Mcintyre expected to shift over to the two-guard position. The Deacs also return point guard Madison Jones, and freshman shooting guard Miles Overton is joining the fold in 2013.

It is not clear at this time what schools Chase Fischer will look at following his departure from Wake Forest, but there is a chance Fischer could return closer to home in West Virginia. He was previously committed to Marshall prior to signing with the Deacs.

EDIT: Via Dan Collins of the Winston-Salem Journal, Wake Forest has confirmed.
