The first round of the ACC Tournament is underway in Greensboro, and already two teams have been sent packing. First was Georgia Tech, a 84-64 loser to Boston College despite opening the game with a 14-0 lead. Next, the N.C. State Wolfpack dispatched Erick Green and Virginia Tech, 80-63 in front of a raucous, (mostly) red-clad crowd.
Wake Forest is looking to beat 7th-seeded Maryland and meet Duke in Friday's quarterfinal round. Maryland has won 6 ACC Tournament games in a row over the Deacons, and have won all 4 matchups with the Deacs since Mark Turgeon became head coach.
A Wake Forest victory would take a lot of sting out of a rough week for the image of the Wake men's program. A group of Wake Forest alumni and fans have banded together to place banner ads calling for the termination of head coach Jeff Bzdelik in the Greensboro News and Record, This comes one week after the same group placed a similar advertisement in the Wake Forest student newspaper, the Old Gold and Black.
The nightcap is between Florida State and Clemson, who will fight for the privilege of meeting North Carolina in Friday's quarterfinals. Check back for continuous tournament updates from BSD, as John Mundy will be in Greensboro all weekend long.
