UPDATE: Kyle Shortridge De-commits From Wake A Week After Committing

UPDATE: After committing last week, Kyle Shortridge opens his recruitment back up. Not sure what the story is at this point, but obviously this is disconcerting for Wake Forest. As mentioned in the article below, Shortridge has an expansive list of schools after him. Best of luck to Kyle in choosing a school, and hopefully he will stick with us when it is all said and done.

Wake Forest has struck gold once again in the state of Florida, this time reeling in Seminole Ridge defensive tackle Kyle Shortridge to its 2013 football recruiting class.

The 6'2, 280 pound defensive tackle cited the family aspect of Wake Forest as one of the primary reasons he committed to the Demon Deacons on a recent visit.

From the Palm Beach Blog, Shortridge said:

"They're like brothers out here...I felt like I was a part of it. This school feels like family. There's a lot of West Palm Beach players, a lot of Florida players (at Wake)."

Shortridge has one of the best offer sheets that Wake Forest has ever seen with schools like Boise State, Missouri, Texas A&M, Purdue and West Virginia. There were 25 FBS schools that officially offered Shortridge before he committed to Wake Forest.

Now the Deacs have to wait and see whether or not he will stay until National Signing Day (February 6th, 2013). While there will no doubt be many worrisome days until he signs on the dotted line (as well as the other guys in the 2013 class), he seems to me to be in the Bud Noel, Alphonso Smith, Sherman Ragland category of guys that really love Wake Forest and want to make them better.

Shortridge is ranked as a three-star by Rivals, but ranks as the 36th best defensive tackle in the country and the 96th best player in the state of Florida, which is no small feat for a state that consistently cranks out elite FBS talent year in and year out.

The defensive tackle visited Wake Forest on Monday, and he committed Tuesday afternoon after spending the two days with fellow Floridians.

Welcome to Wake Forest Kyle! I hope your 4/5 years are the best anybody could ever hope for! Welcome to the family!!!
