Wake Forest basketball and head coach Jeff Bzdelik got the best news they have received in a while, according to the Twitter feed of Dave Telep, with a report that Greg McClinton has committed to Wake Forest to play basketball.

McClinton is listed at 6'6, 185 pounds by ESPN and is shown as a small forward even though he is a versatile player for Hargrave Military Academy. He is rated as the 82nd best player in the class of 2013 right now, but according to all in attendance at recent camps, he has lit it up and should move up.

Greg chose Wake Forest over Louisville, Xavier, UConn, Virginia Tech and Miami.

We will have more coverage about McClinton in a post later this afternoon, but click through the jump to check on our interview with him from the Carolina Challenge and what this means for Wake.

This is really the best news that Wake basketball fans have had in a while. It gives all of us something to look forward to for the future, and renews hope that we can still land players from our home state, even when some of the more prominent programs are on them hard.

Greg also gives the Deacs a very good link with several other high caliber players, and he can serve as a bit of a liason and representative of Wake Forest. This should result in landing other players to Wake because they want to play with McClinton, as well as in the ACC.

While there is certainly a long way to go to bringing Wake Forest back to respectability in the ACC, this is a big step in that direction, and I think we are all behind BSD when we say, "Welcome to Wake, Greg!"
