Wake Forest Basketball Recruiting Update: Kameron Williams Visit Postponed

The shooting guard position has become a priority for Wake’s 2013 recruiting class, as All-ACC standout CJ Harris graduates after this coming season. His departure will leave the team without a true scorer on the wing, so the need for a guy who can put the ball in the basket becomes immediate. Kameron Williams, a player who could potentially fill that need perfectly, was reportedly supposed to be on campus Monday, according to Deacons Illustrated.

*UPDATE Tuesday 4:00 PM* Williams, however, was unable to make the trip, and his visit has been postponed for now.

Williams has burst onto the national scene as of late due to his dominant play throughout the Nike EYBL Circuit. He currently leads the entire league in scoring with an impressive 22.2 points per game average and has helped his Baltimore Elite squad clinch a berth in the Nike Peach Jam Finals in July. His name has been thrown around a lot lately as one of the better pure scorers in the country, and he has seen himself shoot up all the way to number 69 overall in the recently released ESPN 2013 player rankings as a result. Previously overlooked by many schools mainly due to his small 6’2 frame, Williams is under the radar no longer. He has received offers left and right in the past couple weeks and has a list that includes the likes of Miami, Wake, Providence, Richmond, Rutgers, Michigan, Virginia Tech and Virginia. According to ESPN’s Jason Jordan, he is looking to make a decision near the end of the summer. An addition of Williams would be a huge get for the Deacs, as he could provide scoring and complement incoming point guard Codi Miller-McIntyre nicely. Additionally, fellow 2013 shooting guard target, Davon Reed, has cut his list to eight schools. Wake made the cut, along with Cincinnati, Miami, Harvard, UConn, Louisville, Memphis, and Xavier. Reed will be participating in the NBA Top 100 Camp this week in Charlottesville, VA and is also playing in the EYBL Peach Jam Finals in July. I am attending the NBA Top 100 Camp and looking to make the trip down to the Peach Jam as well, so stay tuned for player evaluations and more updates. Other notes: 2014 point guard target Shelton Mitchell reportedly continued his impressive play at this past weekend’s Nike Elite 100 in Saint Louis. He is an elite talent and would be a huge get for the Deacs. Two other 2014 point guards that Wake has recently been recruiting are Devon Hall out of Cape Henry Collegiate (VA) and Dominique Collier from Colorado. Clearly, Wake’s staff is working hard to build off the foundation class that arrives in the fall with strong 2013 and 2014 classes, and as of right now, things are looking promising.
