UPDATE: Alihodzic commits to UAB

UPDATE: Alihodzic commits to UAB after a visit today.

According to Fahro Alihodzic's Twitter account, the 22 year-old 6'10, 240-pound big man has visited/is visiting the Wake Forest campus Wednesday/Thursday. Alihodzic has taken a rather nontraditional path to playing college basketball in the United States. Originally from Bosnia, Alihodzic played his high school basketball in Ohio before he committed to Fordham where he played for a year. He then transferred to Southeastern Community College where he played 16 games. He was also committed to Nebraska after the year at SCC but left after Doc Stadler was fired following this past year.

Alihodzic is a center who played at Fordham in the 2009-2010 season. He averaged 4.5 PPG and four RPG during that time. After the season he transferred to Southeastern Community College where he 15 PPG (on 68 percent shooting) and seven RPG during the 16 games he played in before he was dismissed (along with nearly the entire team) for what is described here as a on-campus bookstore break-in (no criminal charges were ever filed).

Alihodzic was committed to joining the Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team in October of last year, but de-committed when Doc Stadler was fired as the head coach there after the season. He obviously re-opened his college search and, according to other tweets, is also planning on visiting Oregon and UAB.

If the Deacs were to land him, and I would say that is still a big if considering he still has other schools to visit after Wake Forest, he would obviously help our frontline out for the next two years. Following the departure of Carson Desrosiers, Alihodzic would slide right in where CD left off. He would have two years remaining and would provide some bulk and size ahead of Daniel Green and Devin Thomas at the center spot.

It is unclear what his timetable is for deciding on a school, but I would guess it would have to come in the next month or so if he wants to come to summer school at whichever campus he winds up at.
