Home cooking was the perfect recipe for the road-weary Lady Deacon basketball team, as they dismantled visiting Charleston Southern 77-57 Saturday at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Asia Williams led Wake Forest with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists as they moved to 3-5 on the young season. The Deacons dominated the boards 40-31 after spending most of the season struggling on the glass.
Dearica Hamby continued to emerge as a force for the Lady Deacons, adding 9 points and 6 rebounds. The Buccaneers put up a fight for much of the first half, until Wake Forest was able to dictate tempo and create turnovers. Much of the Deacon offense was generated by forcing Charleston Southern miscues, turning the Buccaneers over 25 times. Aside from forcing an up-tempo attack, the Deacons combined for an impressive 21 assists on the afternoon. Their constant ball movement led to 7 Wake Forest players with at least 8 points.
Next up for Wake Forest is a home contest against Florida A&M on Tuesday at 6:30 pm.
