Boston College vs Wake Forest Highlights - 2012 (via ACCDigitalNetwork)
-For a change of pace, the offense gets love from me today. 409 yards (293 passing, 116 rushing), 13-22 on third down conversions, 2-4 on fourth down, only turning the ball over once in a rather wacky circumstance, and winning the time of possession battle by nearly ten full minutes? That's a pretty good day right there. Also worth noting: Wake was 2-2 in the red zone, both touchdowns. Tanner Price had a really good day, going 39-57 for the aforementioned 293 yards, three touchdowns (all to Michael Campanaro, who is an absolute stud) and one interception that involved the ball hitting a receiver square in the hands and bouncing up to BC's advantage. Camp caught a stunning 16 passes for 123 yards and the aforementioned three touchdowns, 7.7 yards per catch and a long of 27. Terence Davis and Tommy Bohanon also deserve shoutouts, as they caught six passes each, including some key grabs down the stretch. The rushing game had a solid 3.6 yards per carry, and was highlighted by an emphatic and gutsy 23 yard touchdown run on fourth and one in the waning moments of the third quarter.
-The defense also had a very very good day. Admittedly, they gave up 381 yards, but 369 of those were in the air. Yes, the Deacs held BC to 12 rushing yards, for a pathetic 0.6 yards per carry. The defense also forced four turnovers (three interceptions, one fumble), and limited the Eagles to 4-12 on third down and 1-4 on fourth down, including a HUGE goal line stand. Other than a couple of blown defensive plays and one particular 95 yard touchdown drive by BC, the defense was quite stout, even if the Eagles were able to rack up plenty of yards.
-Special teams were okay this game. Alexander Kinal had five punts, an average of 37.6 yards, two inside the 20 yard line, and a long of 43 yards. Kick returns were unremarkable either way, and Jimmy Newman was perfect on extra points on Senior Day.
Other than a couple of blown plays and only a few truly baffling play calls (A really far sideways screen pass to Josh Harris on fourth and one in BC territory? Say what?) I really felt like this was a strong performance by the Deacs. The good news is that both NC State and Notre Dame proved to be fallible today, and I still think a Wake/Vandy match-up in Winston will be really close either way. We only need to win one of those to get to a bowl, and I truly think we're capable of that. The bad news is that NC State should be hopping mad after getting absolutely dismantled by Virginia in Raleigh, and Wake will be the first team to encounter that next week. Still, Notre Dame is the only game I'm writing off for a loss. These last few weeks will be really interesting.
Good win tonight. Much love to all our seniors. On to the next one. Go Deacs.
