The Deacs struggled to a first round score of +24 to land in 13th place after day one at Warren Golf Club in South Bend, Indiana (Notre Dame University). Cheyenne Woods led the team with a score of +3. Wake also took scores of +6, +7, and +8.
Things looked grim when the Deacs first finished. They teed off at 9:06 (central time), and were in 2nd to last place midway through the day. Fortunately the afternoon round proved to be as tough as the morning and the Deacs leveled back out to 13th overall (in a 24 team regional).
The team needs to finish in 8th place or higher to advance to the NCAA Championships held in a few weeks. The good news is that Woods and Sheary will probably not have back to back poor rounds. 8th place right now is at +16, so a good score for today would be anything under +10 as a team. The course is playing the toughest of the three regional sites.
