National Signing Day: Wake Forest Demon Deacons Open Thread

Wake-forest-logo_medium

We're trying a different approach this year. We'll obviously be updating you on whose letters get in, and some info about each player, but we will also try to man the comments as a form of chat, where we can talk about the day and ask/answer questions. As always, keep an eye on the Wake Forest Sports Official Site as all the letters come in.

1:13PM: Ramsey is in. That should close the book on the signings unless the Deacs pull out a miracle or a mystery kicker/punter.

12:04PM: Allen Ramsey, a 3* CB who previously decommitted from Maryland for Wake, is expected to make it official during a ceremony that was scheduled for noon. Ramsey is one of the real stars of this class. He doesn't have elite speed, but has good instincts and is aggressive. He will need to get stronger and more polished, as well as get better at tackling, but he will be a valuable addition to a secondary that got absolutely shredded last year.

11:45AM: Scout 2* OLB Josh Hunt and 3* OG Dylan Intemann are both in. Still waiting on Jordan Pineda and Allen Ramsey but there is talk that Pineda will greyshirt. You may remember Hunt committed, decommitted, committed to North Texas, decommitted and committed to Wake again. With the LOI, the rollercoaster ride is over.

11:38AM: All-name candidates God's Power Offor (6'3", 220lb DE, 2* Scout, 2* Rivals, 3* ESPN) and Orville Reynolds (5"7", 175lb, 2* Scout, 3* Rivals, 3* ESPN) are both in. Power Offor has really impressed and was a rising star. And Reynolds will be a nice complement to DeAndre Martin at the RB position.

11:11AM: Desmond Floyd, a 6'5", 229lb DE from Union, SC, will be coming to Wake Forest. His LOI is in. Floyd is a 3* in Scout and Rivals and is a 77 Grade/3* on ESPN. ESPN has this to say about Floyd:

Floyd as a defensive end prospect has solid size and a good frame and should be able to add more good bulk with time in a college weight program. He does need to keep adding size. He does not look as big as listed and needs to keep physically developing his frame. [...] Does not dazzle you with speed, but does do a good job of attacking the shoulder, taking a tight path, and being able to turn the corner. Will display the ability to counter back if he starts to get pushed past the quarterback. Will use his hands, but needs to be more active with his weapons. Floyd is not a very flashy player, but is a good sized kid who seems to play steady and well against the run and pass.

10:37AM: DeAndre Martin, a RB out of Hileah, FL has faxed in his letter. He's a 3* on Rivals and ESPN, and a 2* on Scout and is a huge back at 6'3".

10:31AM: Former Wake commit Will Harlos has officially signed his LOI with Colorado. He was a long-time commit that recently changed his mind.

10:25AM: Miami DE God's Power Offor should be solid and good to go. According to Sports Illustrated,

At 10 a.m., the crown jewel of the class of 2011 will sign with Wake. God's Power Offor, a defensive end from Miami, confirmed to me via text message that he will sign with the Demon Deacons at a ceremony at American High.

10:17AM: LB Andre Wiggins's letter is in now. Wiggins chose the Deacs over Texas A&M and is a 3* on Scout, 2* on Rivals, and a 45 (no star) on ESPN. Wake's official site has him at a 4.5 40 and you can find video of him there.

10:10AM: Great news that Kevin Sousa is officially a Deac! 6'3", 210lb QB from Florida who was originally a Michigan commit. Sousa is a 3* in Rivals, Scout and ESPN and is a huge pickup for Wake. He has tremendous upside potential, and with good coaching could be a really good one. Heather Dinich of ESPN thinks that Sousa has the potential to be great.

Wake Forest's recruiting class isn't going to make a lot of headlines this year, but quarterback Kevin Sousa's signature is an important one. He could be the next Tyrod Taylor. (Seriously). Sousa has a lot of potential, and the staff was able to lure him from Michigan's commitment list in December. Once Miami coach Al Golden was hired, though, he immediately went after a quarterback, and Sousa was on his list. For Sousa to honor his commitment to the Deacs after a 3-9 season for Wake Forest is impressive.

10:04AM: Grady to Vandy.

9:59AM: QB/ATH Josh Grady will be making decision soon here. Down to Iowa State, USF, Wake and Vandy most likely.

9:39AM: It's official. Darius Jennings to UVA. Would have been nice to have him.

9:20AM: Brandon Chubb, a 2* in both Scout and Rivals, and a 45 (no star) on ESPN is officially a Deac. He was a late pickup for the Demon Deacons, and the DE comes in at 6'0", 230lb.

9:00AM: Four letters are in already.

  • Cody Preble, an offensive lineman from Lake Worth. (6'5", 315lb, 3* Scout, 3* Rivals, 74 Grade /2* ESPN)
  • Sherman Ragland, WR out of Durham from Southern High School (6'1", 195lb, 3*Scout, 3* Rivals, 77 Grade/3* ESPN)
  • Airyn Willis, WR from High Point and Southwest Guilford H.S. (6'2", 180lb, 3* Scout, 3* Rivals, 79 Grade/3* ESPN)
  • Hunter Goodwin, an offensive tackle from Baltimore (6'4", 285lb, 3* Scout, 3* Rivals, 75 Grade/3* ESPN)

8:48AM: Early news is not good so far for Wake fans. Its looking more and more like Darius Jennings, a 4* ATH, will pick UVA. Wake was in his final three along with Ohio State. In addition, Anthony Harrell has decommitted and will be choosing Georgia Tech. This comes off the heels of the Willis news originally reported by the News & Record.

Hope this works!
