Inside The Numbers with Bart

Because we're winless when I've skipped Parts I and II the past couple of weeks

Robbie Diesel was bogged down with work today so Inside the Numbers' weekly installment has been bumped up a day. I'm sure our audience is thrilled! There's not as much humor in this week's edition because quite frankly there's nothing funny about Wake football other than Wake football.

Maybe this week we can bump up our offensive game plan from the 3rd grade level it was at against Florida State and enter at least the middle school level of play calling. But then again we probably won't.

I'm Bart, and these are my thoughts.

31: The number of yards Wake had in the 3rd quarter of the Florida State game

7: The number of drives Florida State had over 31 yards during the game

11: The number of tackles for loss Kyle Wilber has through 4 games this year, second in the nation

8: The number of tackles for loss John Russell had in 2009, the most on last year's team

5: The number of sacks Kyle Wilber has through 4 games this year, second in the nation

4.5: The number of sacks John Russell had in 2009, the most on last year's team

4: The number of passes broken up by linebacker Joey Ehrmann, no player in the entire secondary has more than two.

164: The number of yards Ted Stachitas has gained on the ground this year

131: The number of yards Ted Stachitas has gained through the air this year

86: The number of rushes Georgia Tech's quarterbacks have combined for this year, from the option offense

81: The number of rushes Wake's quarterbacks have combined for this year, from an unidentified offensive identity

72: The number of rushes Wake's running backs have combined for this year

41: The number of rushes the rest of the team has combined for this year

20 or less: The number of rushes Wake's quarterbacks should have combined for so far this year unless Givens, Brown, Pendergrass, Adams, Harris, or Jones were running the wildcat.

41.43: The average yards per punt for Shane Popham, 6th out of 7 punters who qualified (at least 3.6 punts a game) in the ACC.

25.13: The average yards per kickoff return for Michael Campanaro, 3rd in the ACC.

0: The number of times I thought "Oh well that's good coaching" about Wake Forest during the Florida State game

6: The number of times I thought "Wow great athletic move by that Wake player, we should find a way to get him the ball more"

6: The number of punts in Wake's first 7 possessions against FSU

6: The number of punts Wake has forced in the last 3 games

0: The number of punts Wake has forced in the first half of the last 3 games.

45: The number of passes Georgia Tech has attempted this year

15: The number of passes Georgia Tech has completed this year

33%: Completion percentage for Georgia Tech this year, the worst in the FBS

2: The number of Georgia Tech players in the top 10 in rushing in the ACC (QB Josh Nesbitt and RB Anthony Allen)

320.5: The number of rushing yards per game Georgia Tech averages, 3rd in the nation

27-21 Georgia Tech: My prediction for the game on Saturday. Yes the team has been utterly horrendous over the past two games, yes Georgia Tech can run the ball effectively, and yes Georgia Tech is a better team. I think our defense will come prepared to stop the option and my bold prediction is we don't give up more than 250 rushing yards. Tech's defense is not very good and I think we will get back into the end zone this game. Wake will be in position to win this game but will come up short.
