Talking Wake with BCS Evolution

A few days ago, I had the chance to talk with Ben from BCS Evolution, who was gracious enough to feature BSD on his site. It's a bit delayed, but you can find Ben's questions and my answers on Wake football, including the good, the bad--and predictions--after the jump.

What good has come from this past off season for Wake Forest fans?

Well it was certainly good seeing Brandon Ghee drafted by the Bengals and that he has officially signed. We are encouraged by how hard everyone seems to be working on the team and the news of our recent commits (including Allen Ramsey who decommitted from Maryland and Best Name Candidate God's Power Offor).

What questions bring dread to the Demon Deacon faithful?

The quarterback position. It's scary. There are just too many unknowns there. It isn't a question of talent, just that there is inexperience and youth at the position. Someone needs to step up and learn how to be a leader. Also, youth in general is a big deal. This team has seen a lot of changes in the last two years and it's a whole new team which requires them to build a whole new identity.

Do you think a ranking of 43 is fair, based on the past three years? What about a strength of schedule of 72 for this year?

I'd say those are both fair. The schedule is balanced to some extent, which is good. We played a very difficult schedule last year and it burned us in close games. This year it will be good to hopefully get some easy games under our belt as wins might be hard to come by. But there are still plenty of challenges.

What do you expect to see in 2010?

5 or 6 wins, a lot of growth and optimism from the young players, but plenty of headaches.

Is football anything more than a pass time until basketball season at Wake Forest?

There has been a big shift in fans' perceptions of the football team in the last few years. Football means a lot more to Wake fans. And I wouldn't have it any other way. The facilities are great, the coaches passionate, and the quality of the players have improved significantly from year to year. There is a lot to be excited about when it comes to Demon Deacon football. But of course, basketball season is just around the corner...
