Deacon Dump 3/3: Brandon Ghee impressing at the Combine, Murray named to Bench Watch List

Got some good, well-rounded links for today to snack on. And we'll be getting you ready to go for tonight's FSU game. It's hump day and it sure feels like one.

Crothers: More Is Less Articles
When I hung up with the last of the dozen coaches, Dino Gaudio, who had just argued passionately for expansion, a cold chill ran down my spine. I know this sounds crazy, but in a couple of weeks when you start filling out your NCAA bracket, savor the experience, because it is almost certainly the last time it will include just 65 teams.

Combine Coverage: Tuesday | Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Pewter Report
Wake Forest CB Brandon Ghee (6-0, 192) Ghee really opened some eyes at the Senior Bowl, and he continued to impress at the combine on Tuesday. Ghee ran the second-fastest 40-yard dash time (4.45) of any of the defensive backs and led all cornerbacks in that category. He also had a 10'7" broad jump and 15 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. By comparison, Boise State CB Kyle Wilson led all cornerbacks with 25 reps of 225 and Kansas State CB Joshua Moore was the lowest with just two reps of 225. Ghee had just one interception at Wake Forest, but he's considered an intriguing prospect in the 2010 NFL Draft. His offseason has arguably been more impressive than his collegiate career.

Jimmy Zenevitch gets defensive - EagleTribune.com, North Andover, MA
Of Carson Desrosiers' five assists last night, you won't find a prettier one than the interior no-look feed that found Zenevitch perfectly through three different A-B defenders. Desrosiers also worked the back door a couple times to versatile junior Evan Sheehan. "For a big man, he's the best passer around," said Sheehan. "He finds you anywhere. You move, and he'll get you the ball. He just sees you out of the corner of his eye. Jimmy hardly knew it was coming, because it was such a great pass."

Zenevitch led the charge with 14 points, and Luis Puello added nine. Carson Desrosiers struggled shooting the ball, hitting only 4 of 14 for eight points but typically dictated in the paint, yanking down a dozen rebounds with eight blocks.

Will the Deacs roar in March?
"We've got to make perimeter jump shots," Gaudio said. "We do. "We've got to kick out and make perimeter jump shots. It's no secret. (Clogging the lane is) what N.C. State did. That's what Carolina did as well. We've just got to find guys who can make jump shots. "Now earlier in the year C.J. (Harris) and Ari (Stewart) were really shooting the ball well for us. They're young. They'll bounce back."

Tonight’s game: Wake Forest at Florida State - OrlandoSentinel.com
BUZZ: If this isn't a must-win, it's the closet thing to it for Florida State, which suffered a disappointing 53-50 defeat against Clemson on Sunday. If FSU rebounds with a victory tonight, it can all but seal a bid to the NCAA Tournament. But a loss? Then the Seminoles would be firmly on the dreaded tournament bubble.

"We're playing for our postseason lives," FSU head coach Leonard Hamilton said. "I'm confident we'll come back. "… But Wake Forest is very, very good. This is not just an average team coming in here. This will be a team that you won't have any advantage on physically. They're actually bigger and stronger than we are. They're very physical and don't mind being physical with you."

Bust fare? Johnson disputes that idea :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Bulls
''We had walk-ons at Wake Forest, at my college, that went 100 percent in practice, worked out and knew they weren't going to play,'' Johnson said Tuesday. ''At least I know I have a shot to play."

Area schools put basketball seasons on line - CharlotteObserver.com
The Dudley-West Charlotte game will bring together two of the state's most storied programs - and two of the state's best players. Dudley has reached five N.C. High School Athletic Association championship games, winning three. West Charlotte, which last won a 4A title in 1999, is trying to reach its sixth NCHSAA championship game. The Lions have won the previous four times they got that far ('99, '92, '91, '86). Dudley's top player is 6-foot-5 junior P.J. Hairston, who has committed to North Carolina. West Charlotte's J.T. Terrell has signed with Wake Forest.

"Offensively we weren't clicking," said head coach Rick Nault. "But I thought we were perfect defensively." Jimmy Zenevitch led the way with 14 points, while Carson Desrosiers had 8 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 blocks

Desrosiers might be the most underrated big man in the country. We're talking about a guy who averages close to a triple double and yet rarely gets recognized as one of the elite big men in the country. Once he adds strength to his frame he's going to prove to everyone that like Travis, he was overlooked in high school.
