WBBall Wake Forest vs. Georgia Tech Game Preview
via www.wakeforestwomensbasketball.com
Tonight marks one of the bigger games in Wake Forest Women's Basketball history, as the Deacs try to get a win that could push them over the hump to get their second NCAA Tournament bid in school history.
Georgia Tech comes into the game with an 18-7 (8-4 record in the ACC), as well as a No. 20/22 ranking in the country depending on what poll you look at. The Yellow Jackets have won five out of their last six games in the ACC, including an impressive 56-54 win @ No.23 UNC last weekend.
Wake Forest has a 15-10 record ( 5-7 in the Atlantic Coast Conference) and had a big win over N.C State in front of a sold out crowd in Reynolds Coliseum. If the Deacs can win tonight then it would push their winning streak to four games, and give them that win that they need to look good in the eyes of the NCAA Tournament committee.
I am biased since I cover the Deacs for the Old Gold and Black, but honestly the Deacs are very fun to watch. For those of you that haven't seen a game, Coach Petersen stresses a constant pressing, high tempo ballgame. Not only do the Deacs get up and down the floor, they also force turnovers at a very high rate and score a high percentage of their points in transition.
For those people out there complaining about the lack of a basketball team on campus, I highly encourage you to get out there tonight, wear pink for the Play4Kay game (to support breast cancer), and cheer on your Deacs as they continue their hot play.

WBBall: Wake Forest takes on the No. 25 UNC Tar Heels
The Wake Forest women's basketball team will look to bounce back from a 64-39 defeat at top ten team Miami on Thursday as they take on the No.25 North Carolina Tar Heels in the LJVM at 2:00 today.
UNC comes into the game with a 15-5 record (5-2 in the ACC), but have won their last three games in the ACC after an embarrassing loss to Connecticut 86-35. The Deacs are 12-8 (2-5), are looking to get back on the winning track that they were on earlier in the year, as they have dropped their last 4 out of 5 games, all against ACC opponents.
Senior center Chay Shegog leads the Tar Heels in scoring and rebounding at 16.5 ppg and 7.9 rpg. The Deacs will need strong efforts from Sandra Garcia and Lindsy Wright to shut her down inside the perimeter.
The projecting lineups for each team are after the jump, and all the game talk can be posted here in the comment section.
For those of y'all that can't make it out today, the game can be heard live on WakeForestSports.com, as Cabell Philpott will take the play-by-play, and Roper Halverson will do the color commentary. Also, twitter updates can be found at @sports_ogb throughout the game.

The Wake Forest women's basketball team will look to continue their hot start to the year as they host the #25 Delaware Blue Hens today at 1:00 at the LJVM.
The primary focus of the game for the Deacs will without a doubt be guarding junior phenom Delle Donne, who comes into the game averaging 29 ppg and 10 rpg. She shoots 58% from both 2's and 3's, and is at 91% on the year from the line. Donne is 6'5 and plays the hybrid guard/forward position. At 6'5, Donne is two inches taller than anybody on the Wake Forest roster.
The Blue Hens are looking to improve to 8-0 on the year and move up in the national rankings.

The Wake Forest women's basketball team faces off against Tusculum tonight at 6:30. There is still time if you're reading this to get over to the Joel and take the game in. Click through the jump for a bit of a preview (really a look at the Deacs and what to expect in the second exhibition game).

Wake Forest Women down Lenoir-Rhyne 102-39
Lenoir-Rhyne wasn't expected to bring much of a challenge to the Wake Forest women's basketball team in the first exhibition game of the season, and they didn't, as the Deacs got out to a quick start and never let up en route to a 63 point victory.
I'm sure Coach Petersen wasn't happy with some of the things that he saw on the court (rebounding for stretches, help defense on the baseline, some careless turnovers), but with a 102-39 victory, it is hard to be too critical of your team.
Freshman Dearica Hamby showed why the Deacs were lucky to grab her, as she put up 18 points and 9 rebounds in just 14 minutes of play. She was very active all over the court, and has the ability to push out on defense and close down the passing lanes on the perimeter.

Wake Forest Women's Basketball season preview (exhibition tonight)

A team that gets very little love from the Wake Forest fan base (and honestly most fan bases around the country sans UConn, Tennessee, Duke and UNC), is the Wake Forest women's basketball team.
This season I plan on keeping up with them on here, as well as attending many of their games. While I know that everybody may not be as keen on reading these articles as they are about football and men's basketball, the women's team has a shot to be pretty good this year.
Anyway, the season opens up tonight with an exhibition game against Lenoir-Rhyne at 6:30. I would encourage anybody that can make it out to do so (not just tonight, but the rest of the season as well). Coach Petersen's squad has worked tremendously hard in the offseason, and return four of five starters from a team that went 15-17 last year. That sets the Deacs up for a possibility at an NCAA Tournament run, which would be awesome for the ladies!
