Coffee Talk Part II: The First Year & A Half Of The Jeff Bzdelik Era
On Thursday, Martin, Bart, Rob and myself got together to talk a little bit of basketball. By a little bit, I mean we hammered out about 10 single spaced pages of thoughts on the state of Wake Forest basketball and where it's going in the future.
We published Part I when we got done talking, but due to expansion news and the Wake-State coverage, we wanted to wait to publish Part II on a day when it wouldn't get lost in the shuffle. Without further ado, here is Part II, and we hope you all enjoy reading it as much as we had talking it.
Go Deacs!

Coffee Talk Part I: The First Year & A Half Of The Jeff Bzdelik Era
It has been awhile since the BSD staff has had a chance to sit down and talk together at once. We fire texts and tweets back and forth, have seen each other at tailgates and comment together, but have not had a roundtable discussion in a long time. Luckily, four of us (Rob, Riley, Bart and I) were able to spend an hour talking Wake Forest basketball and program at large. What follows is part one of our two part Coffee Talk on the Jeff Bzdelik Era.
You can find the first half of the discussion after the jump...
ACC Announces New Scheduling for 14 Team Conference
A little late on this news, but the ACC announced their expansion scheduling plans, and obviously this affects Wake Forest.
To make things easy, Syracuse joins the Atlantic Division (Wake's division for you n00bs out there), and Pittsburgh will join the Coastal Division.
In basketball Wake will pick up State as their "partner", and every other team we will play 4 times in 3 years. That means 6 games against the Wolfpack in 3 years (or twice every year). The schedule in basketball will be expanded to 18 games.
In football, we keep our rival in Duke, and the beatings will continue until morale improves in Durham. The conference schedule will be expanded to 9 games.
I for one welcome our new overlords in the ACC because it means more game in-conference, and gives us the weakest of the NC teams in basketball and football as our "partners" (other than Wake in b-ball...LOL).

So good, it almost recruits itself.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons (11-11, 2-6, KenPom 206) @ N.C. State Wolfpack (16-7, 5-3, KenPom 60)

Let's hope for #BetterThanLastTime.
Wake Forest vs. NC State Preview
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons (11-11, 2-6) will travel down I-40 and take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack (16-7,5-3) on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 in the RBC Center. The Deacs will look to rebound from their embarrassing loss to the Wolfpack in mid-January.
The Deacs opened up as 13 point underdogs and the line has since risen to 14.
The Game is on ESPN3 and ACC Network.
We'll be here tomorrow on the game thread. Stop on by, and enjoy the game with us. I'd also recommend reading our coffee table talk. I felt that it went in a great direction and we all gave very informed opinions.
Below the jump I'll provide some stats and analysis. As always, please feel free to leave comments and let's cheer on the Deacs!
6. Let’s hear a prediction. Final score? Maybe leading scorers for both teams?
State should be able to handle this one again, although I don’t see Wake falling as flat as in the first meeting in Winston-Salem. The Deacs have had a really difficult time scoring of late, and need to at least shoot 40 percent to keep this thing under double-digits against athletic players like Williams, Leslie, Brown and Howell. A solid performance out of Wood would really tip the scales in N.C. State’s favor as well. I think Leslie gets 20 and C.J. Harris leads the Deacs with 18.
As for a prediction, let’s say, Pack wins 76-58.
Talking Wake Forest-N.C. State Basketball With Derek Medlin
I was really excited to be in town this time around for Wake-State so I could reach out to Derek Medlin and get his thoughts on the game. Medlin is one of the best minds around when it comes hoops, and you can find his work in a number of places, including over on Pack Pride. His twitter is right near the top of my must-follow ACC list.
So I shot some questions over to Derek that he was kind enough to answer, and I answered some for him. I'll link to that as soon as those go live, but for now, enjoy his half of the conversation.
We talk Gottfried, recruiting, Calvin (and "C.J.") Leslie and more after the jump...
State of the Program
What follows are my (attempts at) impartial thoughts concerning the men's basketball team. I will offer analysis of players, schemes, and attempt to diagnose causes based on these. This is not intended to be an indictment of any individual. The players are 18- to 22-year olds. Some fluctuation of quality of play is to be expected, based solely on that fact alone.
Editors Note: We will have a RoundTable Discussion of Wake Forest basketball coming later this afternoon from the perspective of some editors and writers. This is a fantastic first look at the Deacs and where we are at this point in the Jeff Bzdelik Era, as well as the players that are here.
This is also a great example of the work that should be put forth to get on the front page. It's well researched, well written, and generates new and good discussion of the basketball team.
