After his official visit to Wake Forest over the weekend, Mitchell Wilbekin committed to Wake Forest on Monday. Wake Forest had the upper hand on Virginia, as Wilbekin initially committed to play for Danny Manning at Tulsa. With the recent release of Shelton Mitchell, Wilbekin joined Rondale Watson and became the second commitment of the 2014 recruiting class. With the commitment, Wake Forest added a point guard who has the potential to make an immediate impact.
It was easy to tell Wilbekin loved Wake Forest after his official visit over the weekend. On the visit he said, "It went really well. I felt comfortable with the staff and had fun playing with the guys."
He continued to comment that, "I liked all of the facilities on campus. It was not too big, but not too small. It's a college town and everyone loves Wake Forest basketball."
Mitchell Wilbekin listed many reasons for committing to Wake Forest: "My relationship with Coach Manning and the rest of the staff, a chance to play in the ACC, and a program that has lots of history." He said these were the qualities he was looking for in a college and he found those qualities at Wake Forest.
Of the many reasons he chose to commit to Wake Forest, Danny Manning was the biggest reason. About Manning he responded, "I am blessed to have the opportunity to stay with Coach Manning. I love his calm demeanor and the fact that he's played and excelled at the highest levels, so I know he can develop my game."
While Mitchell Wilbekin does not know his role on the team yet, but he is excited for his future at Wake Forest. On his role, he responded "I'm not worried about it. I just want to come in and work hard. Coach Manning knows what he's doing." This selfless attitude will serve him well with the team.
Mitchell has been extremely gracious to talk with Blogger So Dear and we are glad he has decided to attend Wake Forest. Make sure you follow him on twitter @mwilbekin1.
