It was a warmer afternoon for the Demon Deacons as they had their second practice of the spring. Once again the staff and players brought high energy to the practice field.
On the defensive end, it appeared that Zachary Allen and Wendell Dunn were lining up as the main defensive ends when the team went 11 on 11. Dunn was also impressive in position drills and I believe his athleticism could be a valuable asset as an edge rusher. Josh Banks and James Looney were lined up on the interior. At linebacker, expect to see Brandon Chubb along with true sophomore, Marquel Lee. Hunter Williams was also seeing a lot of reps in addition to Teddy Matthews, who should be a great fit for the rover position in this multiple defense. In the defensive backfield it was the usual suspects of Kevin Johnson and Merrill Noel at corner along with Ryan Janvion and Anthony Wooding Jr. at safety.
Offensively, the five offensive linemen taking the majority of reps with the first team included Dylan Intemann, Cory Helms, Josh T. Harris, Antonio Ford, and Tyler Hayworth. A player to watch as the spring progresses and into summer camp and finally games is tight end Cameron Serigne. He was strong in position drills as well as the the skeleton. Serigne will be a redshirt freshman this fall.
There were several recruits visiting practice, including Rocky Reid, who is a 3-star running back out of Concord, North Carolina. According to 247 sports, he will take an unofficial visit to the University of South Carolina on Saturday and take an unofficial visit to the University of Louisville on April 5th.
The next practice is scheduled for Saturday.
