GREENSBORO-- Senior Alexa Deluzio scored 19 points and Chelsea Davis added 15 to eliminate the rival Miami Hurricanes in the first quarterfinal of the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament, 70-58. Florida State (22-8, 11-7 ACC) held a 10-point halftime advantage before Miami rallied to cut the lead to 3 at the under-12 timeout in the second half. Chasity Clayton and Yashira Delgado also scored in double figures for the Seminoles.
The Hurricanes (21-10, 11-7 ACC) were unable to protect the basketball, and committed 23 turnovers compared with only 8 for their opponent. Florida State made the most of Miami's carelessness, as they scored 19 points off of Hurricane turnovers.
Miami was led by center Shawnice Wilson (18 points, 18 rebounds) and Morgan Stroman (12 points, 12 rebounds). Next up for the Seminoles is the winner of quarterfinal number 2, which pits North Carolina State Wolfpack against tourney favorite Duke.
