Yes, you read that right. Here's a snapshot of the ad.
Jeff Bzdelik's time as head coach at Wake Forest might be growing short because of the caustic atmosphere developing around his program from angry fans as much as the results his team has produced.
In fact, if a countdown clock at Firebz.com is correct, there shouldn't be more than two days, 14 hours, 51 minutes and 27 seconds left in his tenure as of this writing. Apparently they don't expect him to coach in the ACC tournament next week.
The disgruntled fans who started Firebz.com earlier this season brought their case out of Cyberspace to the folks who still get their news in print. They took out an ad in the Wake Forest student newspaper this week asking students to encourage athletic director Ron Wellman to fire Bzdelik. A picture of the ad first turned up on Twitter from Adam Bridgers via @AWBridgers.
These folks are fond of Wellman either because he's the man who hired Bzdelik away from Colorado three years ago, despite a questionable track record coaching at what was then a Big 12 Conference school.
This is just the latest development in campaign to oust Bzdelik who was never a popular choice for the job in the first place. It's never a good thing to see coaches fail and lose their jobs, but it's tough to make a case for Bzdelik when confronted with the numbers such as Bzdelik's 1-25 road record in the ACC or his 4-25 record in February and March during his tenure at Wake.
The Demon Deacons are 12-17 overall and 5-12 in ACC play with only Virginia Tech saving them from the cellar entering Saturday's regular season finale at home against the Hokies.
When Wake Forest beat then-No. 2 Miami last month some speculated it might be enough for Wellman to make a case for bringing Bzdelik back, but the Demon Deacons have lost three straight since some fans seem to be fed up.
Here's a link to the piece. Here is the summary. This story just broke so there should be a lot more to come today. I am ecstatic at the initiative shown here and at FireBz.com.
Go Deacs!
