Wake Forest today announced the hiring of Warren Belin to coach outside linebackers for the Deacon football team. Belin was a four-year letterman at Wake Forest from 1987-1990, where he played for coach Bill Dooley. Belin last served as linebackers coach for the NFL's Carolina Panthers, where he helped mold standout linebackers James Anderson and Luke Kuechly.
Prior to his stint with the Panthers, Belin spent one year at Georgia coaching inside linebackers and running the Bulldogs' kickoff unit, which ranked first in the SEC in 2010. Additionally,Belin served as linebackers coach for 8 years at Vanderbilt University, where he also served as recruiting coordinator for two seasons. Overall, Belin has 20 years of coaching experience, working primarily with linebackers.
Belin's hiring should solidify the Deacons' coaching staff for the 2013 season, barring any sudden departures. He is the second new coach hired in the last couple of months, as Taylor Stubblefield joined the Deacons in February following receivers coach Lonnie Galloway's departure to West Virginia. As previously announced, Derrick Jackson has shifted from outside linebackers to defensive backs after Tim Duffie left to pursue an opportunity at Oklahoma State.
