Davon Reed Set to Visit Wake Forest This Weekend

Stay connected for news and updates

While most of the attention this weekend will be squarely on the football field, as Wake takes on North Carolina at home, the basketball program has a big couple days, as well. Davon Reed, the primary shooting guard target for the 2013 class, will be on campus for an official visit.

Jeff Bzdelik and company have been recruiting the 6'5 wing for awhile now, so landing Reed would be a big win for the staff and is a commitment that is becoming more and more necessary, as more and more players are making their decisions heading into their senior high school seasons. The shooting guard spot is a pressing need in that 2013 class, and Reed appears to be one of the more likely options at this point.

His versatility and size would give Wake a lot to work with on the wing, and that combination appears to fit the mold of players that the staff wants in their system. My scouting report of Reed at the NBA Top 100 Camp this summer can be found here.

Baltimore native Kam Williams is another possibility at the shooting guard spot, but ACC foe Miami is the perceived leader right now. This 6'2 scorer did, however, recently list Wake in his top five, along with Miami, Marquette, Ohio State and Syracuse.

With athletic small forward Greg McClinton already in the fold, the addition of either Reed or Williams would solidify a very solid two man class and give the Deacs a couple guys who can excel on the wing in different ways.

Reed also has visits to Miami (FL) and Xavier scheduled for the weekends of Sept. 15 and Oct. 6, respectively. A decision is expected sometime in October, unless, of course, he pops early and leaves campus this weekend a Deac.
