The EDSBS posts with the Tiger are some of my favorite posts online. Period.

Followed by:

-The Dugout (any of them with Manny Ramirez jump to the top of the list)
-Archived Fire Joe Morgan stuff
-Rex Grossman Sex Cannon posts on KSK
-Old school Will Leitch rants on Deadspin
-Anything Jon Bois writes, but most notably anything he writes about Edson, Kansas)
-Lots and lots of Key Play, From The Rumble Seat, In The Bleachers, Testudo, BCI, Lookout Landing, Tomahawk Nation, Casual Hoya, Tom Ziller, Blazer’s Edge, Troy Nunes stuff and a million other things I’m forgetting

Amazingly, a lot of those guys are affiliated with or are currently involved in SB Nation, which is what makes me so proud to be a part of this network (amongst other things). We’re in good company, friends.

Anyway, let’s get some predictions going — what’s everyone thinking? I’ve got Clemson winning 64-59.

Deacs by 7.

Spencer Hall’s prolly not the best sportswriter out there today, given how much of what he writes about isn’t traditional sports journalism, but he might be the best sports blogger (no offense to the BSD crew). While 8-Ball posts are great, they’re by no means my favorite, which just goes to show how entertaining he consistently is.

I’m also a fan of the Fake Dan Beebe twitter account, if you haven’t checked it out.

Also, I remember Vytas Danelius getting called for that exact same thing at one point.

Also, I’ll say it. Chase’s shooting stroke, while extremely smooth, is not textbook. He’s got the chicken wing goin’ on, instead of a more vertical elbow.

He's progressed nicely.

He’s not Tim Duncan, but he’s a good defensive big guy, he’s not overwhelmed physically like he was last year, and he’s capable of some offense. On the list of comparative bright spots, I’d say he’s behind CJ, Travis, Ty, and maybe tied with Chase.

Discussion question...

Wake’s all-time five looks like so in my opinion
PG: Chris Paul
SG: Randolph Childress
SF: Josh Howard
PF: Rodney Rogers
C: Tim Duncan

Of the other ACC teams with their all-time fives, how many games would we win? Probably not Duke or Carolina (although I think we’d be competitive). The real question would be the other teams like Maryland, Virginia, and NC State.

RE: Discussion Question

There aren’t as many superstar names that have come from teams like State or Maryland, though there have been some big names. Those teams have often benefited more from superior coaching than amazing players. Even when State won the NCAA, their team wasn’t exactly amazing. Maryland wouldn’t have ever been half as good without Gary Williams. With the number of players who came off the bench over time for Duke or Carolina that would have started for many teams across the nation, I would say that some teams’ all-time 5 would certainly struggle.

by CisforCorey on Feb 11, 2012 4:57 PM EST reply actions

Urm...

Maryland’s got Len Bias. State’s got David Thompson.

I agree that their most recent national title teams weren’t overly talented (Maryland ’02 was definitely a product of Gary coaching, and NC State in ’83 was a large fluke). But there is some historical talent there.

by quzybuk on Feb 11, 2012 5:02 PM EST up reply actions

What!?

I hate state, but I don’t think you are giving them enough credit here. You say “their team wasn’t exactly amazing”. Do you think the only state team to win a national championship was Jimmy V’s ’83 team? State won the championship in ’74 with one of the greatest college basketball players ever in David Thompson.
