Hey, here's a chance to get free stuff!
You know SB Nation runs these promotions and campaigns from time to time, and I work in advertising, so I know how nice it is to get through a lot of the junk sponsorships and advertorials and get through to partnerships that actually sit at the heart of what we think about and want. I've been lucky to be a part of some campaigns which have led to some pretty good articles and giveaways, and here's another one.
Hyundai is running this thing called Fanthropology, and the basic premise is this: why are you, me and every other Demon Deacon faithful such diehard fans?
It seems like a tough question to answer. I've thought a lot about my fanhood over the last few months. Why I spend so much time caring, why I revolve my life around sports, why I align myself so closely with the teams I do. Sports are an escape, even in the losing. They give me a clear-cut vision of goals, good vs. evil, storylines, heroes and villains and especially in sports, there's always the potential for new greatness as kids graduate and new bright-eyed players take their place.
Sports are the one thing in my life I don't mind not having control over. When fate intervenes and washes over everything around me, I never mind that sports are abstract. I have a rooting interest, but it's out of my hands.
That's my story, I guess, without getting too in-depth. But I want to know yours in the comments. Why are you such a die hard fan? What makes you tick? Why are you loyal to Wake Forest?
In return, I'll be picking one comment as a favorite to move on as the Blogger So Dear finalist in the Fanthropology contest. The winner across the network, based on a panel of SB Nation judges, will win a grand prize of airfare, hotel, and game tickets for two to the regular season or bowl game this year of their choice.
So let's hopefully have a good conversation. Sports are fun (most of the time), so let's make it fun.
