Fellow Deacs,
The following is an excerpt from WSJ/AP article on Iona game:
"We can't show our opponents any mercy," said Jones, "because our opponents aren't going to show us any mercy."
Iona is 6-13 all-time against Atlantic Coast Conference teams. It defeated Maryland in last season's Puerto Rico Tip-Off.
"No matter who we're playing, an ACC or (a Northeast Conference) team, we've got to bring it every night," Armand said.
Wake Forest was led by 13 points from Travis McKie and 10 apiece from C.J. Harris and Madison Jones.
"Give Iona credit," said Wake coach Jeff Bzdelik, "they hit their first nine shots, they were raining in 3s from deep, and that really extended our defense. And they just went around us, and it just snowballed from there, especially in that first half."
I LOVE the quote from Jones - no mercy! I would love to hear 1/10th of that passion from Bzdelik. 1/10th!! Iona mopped the floor with us. They only have one consonant in their name! OK, so that is immaterial, but I was and am fired up. We lack killer instinct, and that stems from coaching. I have heard we are young and rebuilding, but that is life and the current state of the college game. You have to win with Freshmen. Plain and simple. Bz is giving other teams credit while continuing a brilliant track record of excuse making, but Iona's Jones is preaching No Mercy and Bring It Every Night.
Perhaps we should consider Bringing It as well?
Go Deacs!
