We are coming to you LIVE from beautiful Winston-Salem, North Carolina!
Wait, whaddya mean Brent Musberger’s not calling this game? Cheapass Raycom.
At the Joel...
Hopping mad about the crowd. Might as well be in Raleigh. Pathetic showing by the Wake “faithful”, frankly.

Don't blame me.
I’m 750 miles away, and just found out yesterday that I wouldn’t have to work today.
Happy belated birthday.
Thanks, brother.
It ain’t you I’m talking to, to be sure. Do we not have a student section any more?

BACK IN MY DAY...
The students ALWAYS returned on or around my birthday. Never after.

I'm literally sitting in the heart of a Raleigh suburb.
Where the students otherwise would be. This is sacrilege. Also, awful start.

This might honestly be the worst experience I've had in the Joel.
Between our awful start and sitting in Baby’s First RBC Centerâ„¢, I want to keel over.

I'm pretty sure
that in the last shot to the Wake bench they showed Rusty LaRue rummaging through what appeared to be a movie popcorn bucket.
Glad our coaches have their priorities straight.
MORE DAFT PUNK
Preferably not One More Time though. Poor song choice right after an easy State bucket.
Worst I've ever seen a Wake team play.
Yes, I was here last year.

I literally feel my love of basketball dying.
Screw that half.

I can’t remember a Wake Forest point guard as bad as the 2011 Tony Chennault. And yes, I remember Harvey Hale.
It's almost like...
he doesn’t touch a basketball between games. He seems to have no idea what you do with a basketball.
My favorite was the one where Travis handed the ball off to him running the court and he wasn't ready.
That was pretty super.
He started the second half with a missed lay up and a turnover. Maybe he can set some sort of record today.
Informal poll question time!
Surely Randolph Childress is at the game. How much would we improve in the second half if he came out and played, dressed in whatever he’s currently wearing?
A) We wouldn’t improve at all.
B) We would improve 1-5 points.
C) We would improve 6-10 points.
D) We would improve 11+ points.
E) We would magically morph into the Jordan-era Chicago Bulls, run the table, and beat Carolina in the NCAA championship game on a last-second Randolph 3 to win the NCAA Title. Childress finishes the title game with 87 points on 100% shooting and is named President of the World.
E. It's science.

Well....the halftime show I'm watching is...A Thing.
NASCAR themed acrobatics. North Carolina, folks.

I still have PTSD flashbacks to all those little girls in blond wigs and pink uniforms.
Halftime shows should not cause nightmares.
WHY is Ant not playing?
He would literally have to unironically and purposely dish to Scott Wood for a 3 while he tears off his jersey to reveal a State one while the nWo theme blares for it to be a bad decision.

I am suddenly realizing my nWo joke is likely lost on our readers.
Anybody?

I call dibs on writing the haiku for this.
I’m gonna put in as much effort as the team, so it’ll be one line and eight syllables.
Don't turn this into just a Bzdelik thing.
Literally no one in white is even attempting to play basketball. Phil freaking Jackson couldn’t coach this crew to a win right now.

Bzdelik
I have been very slow to criticize Bzdelik over the past year and half. I stand by my comments and disagree with your claim that Phil Jackson would have the same results.
quzybuk, there will be a recap.
And not a haiku. My rage and disdain cannot be contained in 17 syllables.

McKie throws an elbow.
Most fight we’ve shown all game.
McKie’s gone. I wouldn’t want to watch the rest of this either.
Travis ejected.
Yyyup.

Was the Travis elbow that egregious?
I’m not saying it wasn’t, I honestly didn’t see it, I wasn’t looking.

I thought it was in the flow of his move.
He definitely caught Scott Wood in the face. Judgment call, but not particularly egregious.
If we’re gonna get someone ejected, might as well be when we have zero shot at winning (or respectability).
Well, time to look at the bright side.
We’re not gonna lay another egg this big this season. Or next season. Or possibly ever again. Last time we had one (that I can remember) even close to this bad was losing to D-2 Alaska-Anchorage in the mid-90’s.
I take that back.
This might not be as bad as the Arizona State game (since ASU is a LOT worse than State).
Also, Ty Walker might hit double figures, which is something predicted by SF in the season recap.
I hate the flex.
We’ve seen it a few times this year, but when the flex fails, it fails spectacularly. If the shots aren’t going down, then you’re creating a lot of turnover opportunities for the other team (the multitude of short passes) and run out opportunities (long rebounds, plus guards and big men not in traditional positions to recover defensively.
They seriously took a shot?
Oh my god, screw State. You would hardly see that garbage in the NBA, let alone college.

A Time to Reflect
Bzdelik needs to think about whether he should continue as Wake Forest’s head coach.
Recap(s).
Haiku:
Well, that was awful.
Still, try to keep perspective:
It’s only one game.
Limerick:
When Wolfpack and Deacons collide,
And basketball tricks are applied
The games could be tense,
But we have no offense,
So instead I’d rather have died.
Shakespearean Sonnet:
We did not show up to play in this game,
And as a result we took a bad loss.
It is easy to apportion the blame
When McKie elbows Scott Wood and gets tossed.
But the blame must be spread farther around
The only students present Panhell’ic
So without a better crowd to be found
The blame lies not only with Bzdelik.
Still, it would have been nice to see a win
Over those ag school bumpkins from Raleigh
But our dreams, like balloons prick’d with a pin,
Reveal’d only to be fleeting folly.
And thus, to the Wolfpack chanting I say,
“Go to hell State” on this fine winter day.

Truly TRULY inspired, good sir.
I only hope my recap can hope to capture even one iota of that poetry in my recap. My god, it’s full of stars.

Also... thanks Carolina for crapping the bed worse than us (if such a thing is even possible)
Lessens the sting eeeeeeeever so slightly.
Serious Question Here
I was excited after that Va. Tech game, and they showed some fight against Maryland. Not trying to be negative here, but a serious question: What has been shown in the past 1 1/2 seasons that would indicate that we are on the right track here. I am of the belief that it’s either working, or it isn’t. Maybe it is, but it doesn’t feel like it. What will make this situation any different in the next three years?
I personally refuse to use this game as an indicator of anything, along with the entirety of last season.
And no, I don’t think that’s a fallacy. With what we know now about the team last year and its members, Jeff Bzdelik was dealing with the worst perfect storm of horrible luck and drama he didn’t bring on himself that I have ever seen a coach have to deal with, EVER.
With regards to the majority of the season thusfar, there’s PLENTY to indicate that if nothing else, the team is making progress from last year, which while admittedly is praise that may be as faint as can possibly be leveled, but I PERSONALLY don’t believe that the improvements are in spite of coaching, nor do I think they’re exclusively as a result of coaching, so I’m not so much pro-Bzdelik right now as I am anti-anti-Bzdelik, and those are not the same thing. There’s a reason most standard coaching contracts are three years. If we completely revert to last year’s form and/or the whole mess continues next year then yes, string him up. But no one can project the future with that degree of certainty.

I get that
I hope that the class coming in next year plugs the holes we have and we see dramatic improvement. This was the game for me though, that showed that it isn’t going to be this year. Feeling like Charlie in the Box on the Island of Misfit Toys when he realizes that Santa gave him the shaft again and isn’t coming.
