Ari Stewart Granted Release from Wake Forest University
According to Dan Collins of the Winston-Salem Journal, sophomore Ari Stewart has asked for and been granted his release from Wake Forest University.
"It provides another young man with an opportunity,’’ Bzdelik said of Stewart’s departure.
We wish Ari Stewart nothing but the best here at Blogger So Dear. Hopefully he will find a school that he will succeed and thrive in academics and basketball. On a Wake Forest related note, this opens up another scholarship for Jeff Bzdelik to use for the 2011 or 2012 class. This could be critical in getting a big guy, hopefully a 2011 big guy, in the next month or so.
One would think that Xavier could be a likely destination for Ari due to the ties between the Wake Forest and Xavier coaching staffs. We will present any news as we get it on his destination.

Sad to see him go...
But I see why he did. From a basketball standpoint, his minutes were getting cut throughout the season. From an academic standpoint, he must have been having some issues (hence sitting out the tournament game).
Anyway, I wish him the best of luck wherever he winds up.
jesus what is happening to this place…

Seems like he was just at odds with the coaching staff.
At the open practice he was just completely dis-interested. Every time coach told him something he would just give a smile and act like he had done nothing wrong.
This is not meant at all to bash him since he is leaving, but rather to tell the truth of what I saw. Perhaps others can corroborate so it doesn’t look like I’m just jumping all over him?

In his defense
I’d be at odds with this coaching staff too.

I've been checking out the boards recently and we recently tried
to start a list of coaches worse than Bz. It is not very long. Actually it’s pretty much nonexistent, because there are none.

I was
surprised at how poorly he played this year. I realize he was averaging a decent ppg earlier in the season, but he was a turnover machine and whiffed at so many rebound attempts that I would start yelling for him to be a man and go after the ball. Its obvious that without a fast paced offensive pace like Skip Prosser played, that his lack of defensive effort, ballhandling and rebounding effort offset his offensive shooting.
All in all, though, I do wish him well and hate to see anyone leave the program, although I got used to that during the Odom years all too many times…
Good Luck
Liked Ari’s game – if he could have refined it to drop the turnovers, he could have been a 15 – 18 ppg guy.
Wish him the best – just hope he doesn’t go to a school that we have to play in the next couple of years – we would have to update it from Skeen’d to Ari’d….
If he can mature and take shots within the offense and not try to get his own, he can be a very good player. Too many times, especially near the end of the season, he was putting up awful shots that killed our offense.
His athleticsm is there though and there is still plenty of time for him to reach his potential. Good luck to him.
Dear Coach "Bullshit",
You are slowly destroying everything I love about this team. Letting go of one of my favorite players, for stupid reasons… tossing your weight around. Do you think you may have SOME fault that NONE of your players, and 99% of the fans of your program care for you or your style. I’d rather promote a H.S. coach than watch you look like a pissed off Herb Sendek every game. Make this easy and resign please?
Signed,
A distraught fan who is trying to find any reason he can to care….

A Shame
A real waste of potential. Great athleticism and touch but ironically those attributes led him to be lazy and settle, not improve. Hopefully he will improve his handle and maturity and find success elsewhere.
As for RAJ’s comment, I was also at the open practice and Stewart and Walker were both repeat offenders in terms of mistakes and attitude. Both could be much more than what they’ve presented so far.
An opportunity for change with the team. The coaching staff needs to make the most of it.
I actually think that Ari will do a very good job somewhere else.
Just didn’t click with Coach Bzdelik and was often uncomfortable at Wake judging by some of his tweets.
I wish him nothing but the best at his next school.

Unmotivated
I think Ari can be a great player. He needs some maturity I think. He played very unmotivated this year. He bears the majority of the blame for that but I think the coaching staff can assume a little blame as well for not being able to reach him. Mostly Ari’s fault though.
Why are people so upset about this?
I’m sorry, I wish Ari absolutely nothing but success in the future and he seems like a really good guy but on the court he was a borderline liability this year. He turned the ball over like crazy, and made a lot of questionable decisions as far as things like shot selection. He had some great games and has a lot of athletic ability, so I’m sure he’ll be successful anywhere he goes, but honestly, I found myself very frustrated with Ari on the court at times, and you guys know I’m far from crazy about Coach Bzdelik at this point.
