Taking a break from basketball news, we can turn our attention to football a little bit. Seems so far away, and yet, we're only 7 months from seeing the Deacs take the field again.

While the Demon Deacons will start their season on the road against Syracuse over Labor Day weekend, BSD has learned that the home opener is set. Wake will play N.C. State on Sept. 10.

With every new season, anything is possible. And I'm sure the Wake players still have a bad taste in their mouths from the disappointing season a year ago. They will have more experience and should be hungry to turn it around. If they can make a statement in either of their first two games, that will go a long way toward turning things around.

So even though we're in basketball mode for the next couple months, it's good to know that football is around the corner.
