Wake Forest C Tony Woods charged with assault

In what is truly shocking news, Wake Forest's projected starting center Tony Woods has been charged with assault, per WXII12 in Winston-Salem. Woods, a junior, was "arrested and charged with assault while inflicting serious injury, assault on a female and assault while inflicting serious injuries with a minor present." The victim was the woman he lives with and his one-year-old child was present.

It doesn't even have to be mentioned how big of a story this is on many levels. Wake is very thin at the post position and Woods had really turned the corner at the tail end of last season offensively. Many were projecting him to become a real force in the ACC this upcoming season. Obviously a lot of the details are not out yet, but we'll be sure to keep you updated as soon as we know more.

For a school, nothing. For the player, depends on the severity.

Thanks

yeah. I meant as far as suspensions/player consequences go.

guess we’ll just wait and see…

I am a bit surprised to hear this. I hope it was not too serious and Woods will not get in that much trouble (for his sake, the woman’s sake and the team’s sake). Keep up updated.

Umm, well if the fractured spine part is true, it’s more serious than I thought. It could mean the end of Woods at WFU, but it’s all how Bzdelik (and the administration I guess) would handle it.

He got arrested and has been charged with felonies for breaking a woman’s spine in front of his child.

He should never be allowed back to Wake Forest as a student, much less to play basketball. Completely irresponsible

I wouldn’t want any of this stuff around my team/school so I agree with you there – but if he’s found innocent I think you let him back in. Just my opinion and I know it’s a pretty complex situation. This is bad news for this upcoming season.

If it’s true, it’s very stupid on his part.

Two words gentlemen: Duke Lacrosse. If he did it then I want him gone before I can finish reading “Guilty.” The evidence does look damning but I’ll wait for the professionals to solve this. Until then, he is still one of us and we should treat him as such. If any of you want to be like Duke and throw him under the bus prematurely, then be my guest.
