Whether the Deacons were gashed, or merely nicked, will depend on the further evaluation of a knee injury suffered by Devon Brown. Brown, a junior wide receiver, led Wake Forest last season with 61 catches. Brown was helped off the field about halfway through the scrimmage with what was diagnosed by trainer Don Steelman as an injured medial-collateral ligament.

"I told him that's one you don't even need," Grobe said in jest. "I don't know what the big deal is. That can be put back in there. So we'll see how that goes."
