Deacon Dump 3/25: Ghee's draft stock, is the Demon Deacon the most menacing mascot?

Happy Thursday everyone. I'm certainly ready for the next round of basketball games tonight, especially with how dull this week hand been so far. There is a lot of chatter but no real news on the Wake front right now, but recruiting is heating up in both basketball and football, and there will be plenty to talk about in the upcoming weeks. Here is what the crack team at BSD was able to come up with from around the interwebs today.

Wake Forest Head Coach Dino Gaudio joined us for a very candid 10 minutes to discuss the season, Aminus future, and much more

My Take on Wake - Small Potatoes | JournalNow.com
"Well, there’s a possibility,’’ he said, with a glint in his eye. "(Cross) is already in pretty good shape. "There’s a little bit of a disconnect sometimes I think. I told our players `Just because everybody else does it, that’s not an excuse. When you get nabbed for making a mistake, you can’t tell the officers `Well everybody else is doing it.’—even though everybody else may be doing it. Of course when you’re a football player, obviously it’s going to be public. Our guys just have to live with it and their parents know what’s going on. Our deal is just to deal with it, but don’t go off the deep end unless it becomes a recurring problem. And then there’s going to be some real issues. "But kids make mistakes. The definition of being a kid is you’re going to make mistakes.’‘

USC Looking Into North Carolina Lineman | GoGamecocks
He was at both Wake Forest and NC State for their junior days. "They both went well," said Intemann. "Wake Forest has a small campus and I like it. Their coaches are very personable. NC State has incredible facilities. They are top notch."

Odom isn't the right fit for the 49ers - CharlotteObserver.com
Dave, 67, is a good guy, talkative, who had a nice run at Wake Forest. But it didn't work for him at South Carolina, a school similar to Charlotte in that victories are tough to come by. Let's eliminate that rumor.

AN: You lost coach Joe Speed to Georgia Tech a couple weeks ago, but also promoted coach Davis and picked up Napoleon Sykes. What are you expecting from coach Sykes, and what are your thoughts on the defensive staff moves? BG:Coach Sykes brings a lot to the program. He played at Wake Forest and has coached at Wake Forest. As far this area goes recruiting wise, we think he’ll do a great job recruiting in the Baltimore/Virginia area. He has been with us about three weeks and I have been tremendously impressed. He came highly recommended from coach Grobe and a lot of other coaches on the Wake staff which I know real well

Three local players named all-state
Two Wake Forest signees, guard J.T. Terrell of West Charlotte and forward Melvin Tabb of Raleigh Enloe, were selected to the boys team. Other boys all-state picks were guards P.J. Hairston of Greensboro Dudley, Ian Miller of Charlotte United Faith, Jarrell Eddie of Concord Cannon, Terry Whisnant of Cherryville and Jamal Williams of Southwest Onslow; and forwards C.J. Leslie of Raleigh Word of God, Tashawn Mabry of Rocky Mount, Paul Larsen of Lake Norman and Jay Canty of Oak Ridge.

High Point University - Mahoney's home run helps HPU to 11-3 win over Wake Forest
Freshman Zach Haile (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary) pitched five scoreless innings to lead the High Point University baseball team to a 11-3 win over Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Wake Forest Wednesday at Williard Stadium. The HPU offense put up 11 runs on 14 hits off 14 different Wake Forest pitchers. Alex Wiesner got the start and the loss for the Demon Deacons and no pitcher went more than one inning.

Scout.com: Next Stop: Tigers, Hawgs, Sun Devils?
"Michael (Cooper) just got invited to Arkansas junior day. He just got back from Wake Forest last week," Keith Cooper, Michael’s father said. "He enjoyed Wake Forest."

Prep Insiders: N.C. Associated Press All-State Basketball Teams
West Charlotte's J.T. Terrell, a first-team AP All-State pick last year and a Wake Forest signee, earned 20 votes after averaging 31.5 points per game.

Prospect profile: Brandon Ghee, CB, Wake Forest - Sporting News - College Football - Sporting News
The NFL player I'd love to have as my teammate is … Aaron Curry from the Seattle Seahawks. We played on the same college team together and he has great leadership skills. The college game day tradition I'm going to miss the most is … The Wake Forest mascot -- the Demon Deacon -- riding on his motorcycle through the gate at the beginning of the game.

NCAA Mascots: Top Ten Menacing " RightFielders Women in Sports
7. Wake Forest Demon Deacons- The Deacon is the ambassador for Wake Forest, and a strange one at that. A devilish holy man? Yes, crazy indeed. And above all others, the Demon Deacon lives up to his name. His crazy antics are renowned throughout the NCAA, doing everything from climbing a chapel to knocking himself unconscious after smashing his head into a Gatorade container!
