Andy Katz's Daily Word: Offseason has been rocky, but don't count out Wake Forest Demon Deacons - ESPN
These defections would seem to indicate a cloud forming over Wake. But that's not exactly true. As the start of school creeps closer, there is a renewed optimism within the program that reports of Wake's demise are hardly the case. In fact, Wake head coach Dino Gaudio went as far as to say it's been "a great summer" in Winston-Salem.

"Academically it's amazing and they're in the ACC, so their football is great, but once I went and saw the campus, it just blew me away," Garcia said.

Cornerstone: Deacons are expecting Ghee to be a big boost to a graduation-depleted defense
"Honestly, I need to graduate," Ghee said. "Education is a big deal with my family and me also. "I just think I've been here four years, and it's time to graduate and get my degree from Wake Forest. That's one of the reasons why I came to Wake, to get a degree."

Scouting Wake Forest - ACC - ESPN
Anyone who has counted out Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe in the past should have learned by now that the man can work some magic. The offense, though, won't need any of that.

"We were going over to support our troops, but I think we were more supported than they were when we came back," said Grobe. "You just felt really good about the commitment and sacrifice that our men and women in the armed forces are making for us to be free."

Aminu and 3pters

I don’t like how Aminu is working on his 3pt shot. I mean, the kid is supposed to dominate on the inside, not sit around on the perimeter. There was way too much of that going on last year. Big men shooting shots that they had no business taking.

Gaudio needs to reel that in and get it through to the big men what their role on the team is. 3pt shooting should not be their forte.

You guys agree?

I mean it’s great if a big man finds himself open there once in a blue moon and can knock it down, but I saw on numerous occasions where our bigs would try to create a 3 for themselves.

Chas McFarland should never shoot a 3 and he took a few last year. One time he faked it and the whole crowd let out an audible “NOOOOO”. Then he pulled up and bricked it badly.

If Chas lets one fly this season Gaudio needs to bench him immediately.

Chas is actually one of our better shooters. I wish he took more jumpers from the high post, which would enable Tony to work in the post and them to be in the game together. The crowd ooo’ed because they don’t know much about our players.

Farouq is most effective inside and his 3-point percentage was pretty bad last year. He is a great garbage rebounder and at scoring inside as well as in transition. However, his versatility cannot be ignored and it would be a mistake to limit him too much. I agree that he shouldn’t camp outside the 3-point line, but once in a while it will not be a bad thing – especially since he is going to be our main man in point production.

We were one of the best teams in the nation in FG% last year.
