Deacon Dump 8/13: Receivers out to prove they can step up, Skinner still says he has a lot to learn

Football news is heating up. It is great to wake up in the morning and have quotes and practice notes again. Only 23 more days till the Baylor game.

Star-divide

ACC, its fans, missing out this fall - College Football Nation - ESPN
The dynamic of the ACC has changed this offseason. It's not necessarily a standings-altering change, but it's different, and in this case, different isn't good. The conference will be without three of its most exciting and best players this fall in BC linebacker Mark Herzlich, Virginia Tech running back Darren Evans, and possibly NC State linebacker Nate Irving, though we'll know more about Irving's playing status for this season after his doctor's appointment on Thursday.

Skinner wants to go out a winner at Wake - State |
"Being through it for 4½ years now, there's still just as much to learn now as there was back then, which I never would have imagined," Skinner said. "(I thought) I would be playing for four years and I'd come in the fifth year and just kind of cruise into it and think I had everything figured out, but that's definitely the least of the case. I've got a lot to work on."

The High Point Enterprise
"They have ability," he said. "It bothers me that they don't have much experience, but that is better than having guys who have been around for awhile but can't play. "These guys have the ability to go play. We've got some guys who can make things happen. For a change, we've got a group of kids who might catch a 5-yard throw and do something with it."

Football Practice Report No. 5 - WAKE FOREST OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE
"I have a good feeling about this football team. We've had five pretty good practices, and of course we're going to come out and drag in one of them but we haven't done it yet so I'm happy."

Wake Fanfest this Saturday at BB&T
MAY I HAVE YOUR AUTOGRAPH? Get ready to kick off another year of college sports at Wake Forest University Fan Fest at BB&T Field this weekend. Mix and mingle with players and coaches from fall sports -- football, soccer, volleyball, cross country and field hockey. Gates will open at 5 p.m., and players will be introduced at 6 p.m. Admission is free.

A Big Heart: Deacons like the attitude, and athleticism, of Wilber on the defensive line
"I told him we've got to quit feeding him potato chips and feed him some steak and potatoes," Henry said. "He'll grow into it. "When he does, he's going to be a great one. He'll be one like a Jyles Tucker or Calvin Pace or Jeremy Thompson. I think he can follow those guys' shoes."

Stadium Stories: ACC - Wake Forest
Skinner is the face of the program and has been for the past 4 seasons, leading his team to an 11-3 record his freshman season. Skinner has over 6000 career passing yards in a program that isn't known for amazing offensive performances. If he puts up slightly better numbers than last season he could end his career with 9000 passing yards, and shatter Wake records.
