Deacon Dump 8/12: Vaughn tears meniscus, Boo Robinson named to Outland Trophy watch list

I'm back. Finally. No one wants to hear about a wee blogger's life, but two moves, a trip to Chicago, a lack of internet access and starting a new job made it difficult to give BSD the attention it deserved. Thanks to WakeJake for picking up the slack and to RPhilpott for making a special guest appearance. Now back to what you came here for..the links.

Star-divide

ACC Football Commitment Lists: Atlantic Division, August 11 Articles
In Winston-Salem, the Demon Deacons picked up their second quarterback pledge of the class. It came in the form of Florida-native Eddie Sullivan. Although he is unranked by Scout, he did garner a three-star rating from Rivals. He’s not the tallest prospect, at 6’1, and he doesn’t have the best arm-strength. Still, he’s a very accurate thrower and doesn’t make many mistakes. He understands the game and has enough mobility to make some throws on the run. With such strengths and weaknesses, it only seems fitting that Sullivan will attend Wake Forest – especially considering his strong similarities to the team’s current quarterback. Yes, I went there. Riley Skinner.

Inspecting our expectations for Jeff Teague - Peachtree Hoops
Will Teague be communicated properly to relish such a role? Will he buy into such a role even if he is? Is Teague a good enough player to play in the NBA? I don't know the answers to these questions. He could be a diamond in the rough or a complete bust and either way would make stats, draft position, and random conjectures all but irrelevant. But if Teague does indeed have the ceiling of a quality NBA starter and if fans, coaches and players can understand where the Hawks plan for the point guard position, I think 13 minutes a game and a PER of 12 or 13 is a success for Jeff Teague's rookie season.

Hoopinion: Reasonable Expectations For Jeff Teague, Or, A Rookie Guard Study
Admittedly, there's nothing groundbreaking to be learned about Jeff Teague's future from either the collective data or individual cases but I think it's valuable to establish the historical range of performance against which one can expect to evaluate his rookie season and for the reminder that his rookie season will probably not clearly establish the path of his career.

James Johnson Hits the Floor at NBA Rookie Camp -- NBA FanHouse
This year, Bulls rook James Johnson succumbs to egging from Atlanta's Jeff Teague to get funky on the hardwood. I'm glad he did. James breakdances!!!

Around the ACC: Terps start practice - ACC - ESPN
"We're still really sloppy," [Jim Grobe said.] "We've got real good energy, guys bouncing around and I'm sure that's going to end here pretty soon. They're going to get tired. But right now we have good enthusiasm. We had some collisions tonight but guys are taking care of each other pretty good. I think the energy is exciting. We're dropping too many balls and missing blocks and missing assignments on defense and things like that. It's not because of a lack of trying so that's encouraging. I like the chemistry of this football team. These guys respect each other. We've had three really good practices right now."

News 14 | 24 Hour Local News | Football | Moore happy to finally hear the roar of the crowd
"It was a big day for me, actually," said Moore. "It’s the first day I got to play an actual game, so to speak, in the stadium with fans around. Last time was in college … so it was very exciting to see the fans out here and just be able to come out here and play."

Depth chart released: Buckhalter is a starter and Marshall is not - Broncos : Colorado Springs Gazette, CO
Alphonso Smith is listed as the starter at kickoff return and punt return. Eddie Royal, who has been lining up deep during practice at both positions, was not on the depth chart. That might be a sign the team is serious about cutting back his special-teams work because of his importance at receiver.

New Orleans Saints injury report: Rookie Chip Vaughn will have arthroscopic knee surgery - NOLA.com
Rookie safety Chip Vaughn is also scheduled to go under the knife today. He'll have arthroscopic surgery to repair some torn meniscus in his left knee. Depending on the extent of the repair, Vaughn should be able to return before the start of the season, but Coach Sean Payton said he'll know more after he gets the doctors' report.

Outland Trophy watch list revealed - ACC - ESPN
Duke defensive tackle Vince Oghobaase, Virginia Tech guard Sergio Render, Wake Forest noseguard Boo Robinson and Boston College center Matt Tennant were named to the Outland Trophy preseason watch list.

Arnie's Inspiration Open to All - RANDALL MELL | Golf Channel
Though Palmer hasn’t won a tour event of any kind in Murray’s lifetime, Palmer made a giant impact on Murray when they met during a Wake Forest University golf dinner. Murray was 9. "It’s one of the highlights of my life," Murray said. "He told me to keep up the hard work, that the game could take me anywhere I wanted to go in life if I worked at it. I’ve never forgotten that, and I’ve used it as motivation." Grayson would like to follow Palmer’s footsteps to Wake Forest.
