Blogger So Dear Interviews: Wake Forest Guard Konner Tucker

This weekend the Wake Forest basketball newcomers arrive on campus for summer school and workouts. This includes JuCo transfer Konner Tucker, who will enter Wake as a sophomore and look to instantly add a scoring punch to the Deacon backcourt. Tucker was fully qualified out of high school, but felt that he could earn high-major offers by spending a year or two in junior college. His plan worked to perfection, as he had a standout freshman season at Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, Texas and earned several offers from major conferences. He initially committed to Kentucky but backed out with the hiring of Coach Calipari and ended up making the excellent decision to become a Demon Deacon.
Tucker has the ability to play either guard position (UK wanted him at the point), but he will likely see the majority of his time at shooting guard this season. While Ish Smith and LD Williams can score at the rim, Tucker will look to add a perimeter scoring threat to the backcourt after shooting 42 percent from deep in his freshman season at LMC. Tucker's shooting, decision making and ball-handling ability will be a welcome addition to 2009-2010 Wake basketball team.
Konner was gracious enough to answer a few questions for us before he made the transition from Texas to North Carolina. Click through for BSD's Q&A with the last member of the class of 2012!
Blogger So Dear: Most Wake fans have only read a few Lon Morris game reports and don't know about your game. What would you say are your strengths on the court?
Konner Tucker: My ability to score and make plays for my teammates.
BSD: What have you been working on this summer? Did the coaching staff give you any instructions?
KT: I continued to work on my all around game and yes, the coaching staff gave me different drills to work on.
BSD: Would you rather play the point or shooting guard?
KT: I'm a combo guard and I'll play wherever I'm needed.
BSD: After decommitting from Kentucky what made you choose Wake Forest?
KT: Because of the elite academics and basketball program.
BSD: We have seen you listed everywhere from 6'1" to 6'4", how tall are you really?
KT: 6'4"
BSD: Which current Wake players have you had the chance to talk with since you committed to WFU?
KT: I met and talked with all of them on my visit when I committed, but mostly L.D. throughout the summer.
BSD: What number will be be wearing at Wake and why?
KT: #25, it's a family number. Whenever my siblings or I played sports we always chose #25, if available, because it was our dad's number in high school.
BSD: Since you were under-recruited out of high school, did that put a chip on your shoulder to prove everyone wrong last season at LMC?
KT: No, I just took a different path to reach the goal I've had all of my life.
BSD: Is there a certain team on the ACC schedule that you want to beat just a little more than the others?
KT: No. I'd like for us to beat them all!
BSD: Who is you favorite NBA team/player?
KT: Team: Cleveland Cavaliers....Past: "Pistol" Pete Maravich...Present: LeBron James
BSD: Kobe or LeBron?
KT: The King
BSD: Anything else you would like to tell Wake fans?
KT: I'm excited to be a Demon Deacon and looking forward to the upcoming season!
Thanks again to Konner for taking time out to answer these questions for us. If you are in the Winston-Salem area, don't forget to check out Tucker and all of his Wake Forest teammates in action at the Triad Summer Pro-Am League!

Tucker
I wonder how much playing time he will get, or will Dino use him as a zone buster. He’s 6’4’, can shoot from deep, can pass, but is he quick enough to compete in the ACC? When he is in the line up, will he be a defensive liability? It will be interesting to watch how he develops.
line-up
When the season starts and we play against some competition that we should handle easily, for the fun of it I would like to see the following line-up.
Tucker – PG
Stewart – SG
Aminu – SF
Walker – PF
Woods – C
Maybe not the fastest or quickest line-up, but on paper a lot of talent and could be a bear defensively in the paint plus shooting the 3 against 2 players 6’4’ & 6’6’ could be tough. This line-up will never happen but could be fun to watch.
