NBA Draft Combine Liveblog

I'll be liveblogging what I see out of the NBA Draft combine. Come onboard if you want to join in. It is on ESPN U till Noon. Jeff Teague is number 15 and has a teeshirt under his jersey.

Teague misses a midrange jumper. That is something he really needs to improve on. His passing looks relatively crisp early on.

I think Austin Daye still goes really high. NBA scouts have got to love his body type and the potential he has to put on a bunch of weight. He’s extremely long and can stretch out defenses.

I still wonder about Teague—there are just so many guards in this draft and I feel like almost all of them can go higher because many are true PGs. Flynn, Rubio, Lawson, Jennings, Maynor even Patty Mills. Plus you have guards like Harden, Derosen and Tyreke Evans too.

If Teague goes where slotted on certain draft boards (around 18 to Minnesota) he will have to take that as a godsend, but you’ve gotta believe there will be more chance to improve your stock next year. It’s still tough to pass up mid-first round money.

The comparison is there, but Austin Daye could play a bit like Rashad Lewis. He might “play” the four, but he is really just another small forward on the floor for a shooting team. Again, the kid needs more strength, but I would easily take him over a more polished player like Hansbrough or even Cunningham.

There is an absolute lid on the far left hoop. Nobody is making anything.

Timing and agility drills are coming up. This should be interesting.

Jay Williams is just so awkward. “I can’t wait to go to his first game because I want a Blake Griffin poster. He is going to posterize somebody sometime.”

Calling Blake Griffin a “gem in the rough” is a joke. He’s the most polished player in this draft and is going to go #1. How is that in the rough at all? Seems like he’s in the middle of the fairway shooting for the green in two on a par five to me, if we’re doing bad metaphors.

Teague with a nice inside-out pass. He has the ability. He just needs to focus.

That’s absolutely true, I can never imagine seeing Larry Bird run combine drills.

How much more important is footwork and position than speed and size?

Or is it more important at all? You can teach most people those things, but some guys have a knack for it.

I think Terrence Williams is helping his stock in this combine. He seems like he could really put it all together in the pros.

Ok I’ve always understood that Hansbrough worked hard but how many hard-hat, grinding, effort, work cliches can we really fit in one 30 second segment?
