Liberty is really having a tough time. First they lose Seth Curry, now they lose their head coach.

Mr. SHammonds: Let me see if I understand this correctly—accotding to you, it is ok to critique Mr. Curry’s decision to leave Liberty ,when he is seeking to help his future or achieve a higher level of competition, by calling him out because it was unfair to Liberty to leave when they had a chance to do something special. Yet coaches jump on the carrosel to help their self-interests and leave their kids without a coach. We look forward to the same level of indignation about coaches doing this to programs. Perchance, Mr. Curry was aware that his coach was contemplating a departure and so there was no reason to stay. Sometimes it helps to have all the facts on the table. Now it seems Seth’s decision was a really good one.
If it is the case that Seth knew about his coach’s departure then it eases my scrutiny of him a little. However, I don’t believe that to be the case as Bennett was not hired as UVA coach until after Curry’s departure, which makes me think that Seth didn’t leave because McKay was leaving, but McKay left because Seth left. McKillop would never leave Davidson so long as his star in Stephen was still there. Few would have scoffed at the notion of leaving Gonzaga when Morrison was there. Yeah, the coaching carousel is not one of the better parts of college basketball as it can wreck programs, and likely will wreck Memphis and possibly USC for a couple of years as both schools may lose All-American guys after Calipari left and if Floyd leaves. Comparing the coaching carousel to Seth leaving doesn’t paint Seth in a positive light as the coaching carousel wrecks programs in a matter of days. Although that wouldn’t be a problem for Valpo as Coach has stuck to his guns…but imagine if he hadn’t.
Also, don’t get me wrong, my indignation concerning Seth isn’t just for the sake of Liberty. It’s also for his sake as I don’t think he will be able to put himself in the same situation as Stephen has as a possible lottery pick at Duke. Seth and Stephen were both 2-star caliber recruits out of high school. Neither garnered much attention. Stephen went to Davidson, carried them to the Elite Eight, showed how skilled a player he is and how well he can lead a team, and now is poised to make a splash in the draft. Seth got started along the same path, but there is no way he can take over, let alone be the best player on a Duke team; which is why he wasn’t even recruited to play there…even after what Stephen did. There’s a chance he could have done what his brother did had he stayed at Davidson; there’s no chance he can do that for himself averaging 13 points a game as a specialist at Duke.
