"[Miami] came out and fought extremely hard," Wake Forest center Chas McFarland said. "Because they're fighting for their lives."

Mike DeCourcy, SportingNews.com

Ok, this is the kind of quote that drives me off the wall. Wake should be fighting for their lives in every game. They should want to blow people out by 30. This team hasn't shown yet all year they can get up for every game, they only want the big ones. The ACC is too good for that. Come on. If the Deacs lose a couple more games like this, they're going to be fighting for their tournament lives.

Yes I agree that this is an absurd comment by Mr. McFarland. Wake Forest hasn’t accomplished anything as far as I can tell yet so why shouldn’t we be fighting for our lives as well at this point? I understand they are a young squad for the most part but part of me feels as if they believe that they no longer have to fight hard to win, that they should just win based on showing up to the arena sometimes. They aren’t that good and need to realize that they too need to strap it up and go all out every game like they were doing earlier in the season. That comment just eats at me. They have the talent to do alot of great things this year if they just realize that EVERY game is important. Every game is must win, no matter if it is Carolina or a team like Virginia. Every opponent must be treated in the same fashion game in and game out. Maybe I am missing something here but thats just how I see it at this point.

message

The message of keeping Chas on the bench for most of the first half was one of vindictiveness. It served no purpose.

Punishing him versus GT cost the game. Now it has had an impact on two games.

Other players might now feel if they do something wrong they may be benched for much of two games.

This will have long-term negative impact.

You forgot an important part

There is another part to the quote…

“They fought extremely hard because they’re fighting for their lives,” Wake Forest center Chas McFarland said. “We’ve got to be doing the same thing.”

Not vindictive at all

Ahhh that changes alot there. And RJ, Keeping Chas on the bench was not Dino or anybody being Vindictive. Come on now, he is trying to send a message to Chas that he needs to tone it down a little bit and play a bit smarter. I think for the team as a whole that can be used as a good thing, a good source of motivation. This really is not going to have a negative impact on the team going forward. These players know what they have to do to get things back on track and if anything, they ought to be pumped up and ready to go the rest of the way.
